Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng Presides Over the 6th Interfaith Forum Against Human Trafficking

Phnom Penh÷Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, this morning, September 29, 2022, presided over the 6th Interfaith Forum Against Human Trafficking. 2022 under the high presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Taking the opportunity, Samdech Krala Hom emphasized that in 2022, when the situation of Kovid-19 has eased and resumed socio-economic activities, Cambodia will have committed fraud in the transportation system as well as the use of people for forced labor. Block the freedom and use of victims as a tool for further deception.
Samdech continued that this crime is a kind of cross-border crime with a network both inside and outside the country and was secretly carried out by criminals using information technology, forcing people to work without freedom, detaining people, extorting money from the perpetrators. Some also have illegal weapons, which, if not prevented, could jeopardize national security in the future.
Samdech stated that the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking has set out an operational plan to achieve four main principles: rescue the victims, investigate the perpetrators, and search for the mastermind, inspect and collect evidence leading to the closure of business locations. Illegal, especially illegal gambling sites, and if found to be a case of human trafficking must be expanded to investigate money laundering offenses.
Through the operation from August 18, 2022 to the present, Samdech said that the number of complaints received through Facebook and hotline is about 368 cases, of which the perpetrators are most active in Sihanoukville. In 249 cases, the operation team searched the perpetrators at the suspected locations and rescued 361 victims, including 9 victims of trafficking, 54 people and 6 nationalities.
He said that during the operation, the police detained 41 suspects of three nationalities, sent them to court, confiscated evidence and closed the place to investigate and collect more evidence. Hundreds of other victims were also found, although they were not victims of human trafficking. They returned to their homeland.
During the ceremony, Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng thanked the spirit of cooperation from all parties in the operation to combat human trafficking and rescue victims by providing true information about the activities of perpetrators and victims of acts. Trafficking, including fraudulent activities that criminals have taken refuge under various business labels. Samdech hopes that all parties will continue the spirit of cooperation, not by any means of propaganda to humiliate Cambodia.
