Bilateral trade between ASEAN and Japan reaches 240 billion USD, up 17% year on year

Phnom Penh: Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister and Chairman of ASEAN, on the afternoon of November 12, 2022, presided over the opening ceremony of the 25th ASEAN-Japan Summit at Sokha Hotel, Phnom Penh.
The meeting was chaired by two Co-Chairs, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia and Chair of ASEAN, and HE Kishida Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan.
The meeting was also attended by Sultan Haji Hassanal Bulga, King of Brunei Darussalam, HE Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia, HE Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, HE Prayuth Chan Ocha, Prime Minister of Singapore. His Excellency Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of Vietnam, His Excellency Phorn Kham Viphavan, Prime Minister of Laos, His Excellency Federian Marcos, President of the Philippines, and His Excellency Tan Sri Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, President of the Malaysian Parliament, on behalf of the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Also the Secretary of ASEAN.
ASEAN and Japan established the first informal dialogue in 1973, then formalized in March 1977 with the convening of the ASEAN-Japan Forum.
Since then, significant progress has been made in all areas, including political security, economic, financial and socio-cultural cooperation. Japan joined the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) in July 2004 and became a dialogue partner, appointing its ambassador to ASEAN at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
The Japan Mission to ASEAN was established on May 26, 2011. Bilateral trade between ASEAN and Japan reached 240.2 billion US dollars, up 17.2 percent year on year. Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows from Japan in 2021 will reach 12.0 billion US dollars, up 3.5 percent year on year, making Japan a trading partner. ASEAN’s third-largest program.
