Samdech Techo Hun Sen offers condolences to South Korea over the tragedy
PHNOM PENH, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) – The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, expressed his deepest condolences over the tragic incident of a South Korean stampede in Seoul’s Etiwon district on the night of October 29.
In his condolence message to the President of the Republic of Korea, Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasized, “On behalf of the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, I would like to express my deepest condolences and sympathy to His Excellency and through His Excellency to the people. “People of the Republic of Korea, especially families who have lost loved ones. While Cambodia is with the Republic of Korea at this sad time, I wish all the injured a speedy recovery.”
On Saturday night, as about 100,000 South Koreans, especially young people, were spending the night in Seoul to celebrate Halloween, the stampede took place. A gathering to celebrate Halloween has just reopened following the 19 Kovid outbreak.
The latest figures from South Korean authorities show that at least 153 people have been killed and 82 injured, 19 of them seriously. The death toll rose to 22, including four Chinese, four Iranians, three Russians, one American, one French, one Australian, one Vietnamese, one Uzbek and one Norwegian. One Kazakhstan, one Sri Lankan, one Thai and one Australian, while the last foreigner has not been identified.
The South Korean government has decided to declare a week of mourning, from Sunday to Saturday next week.
