Royal Government is preparing to create a new road traffic law
Phnom Penh: Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Road Safety (NCRC), said that the Royal Government is preparing to create a new road traffic law.
Samdech Sar Kheng made this statement at a meeting to pass the new draft law on road traffic on Friday morning, November 25, 2022.
On that occasion, Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng thanked all the members of the National Committee for Road Safety for attending the meeting.
Samdech Krala Hom also confirmed that the current meeting to review and consult to collect input to pass the new draft law on road traffic.
At the same time, Samdech Krala Hom also reminded that the Law on Road Traffic has already been amended once, which amended some content, but the implementation is still a challenge and because now Cambodia has The infrastructure of expressways and highways is under construction and under construction, so the National Road Safety Committee has to amend this law again to be practical, but according to the discussion, 47 amendments have to be made. Article 90, considering that the article to be amended almost completely of the law on road traffic, the National Committee for Road Safety decided to draft a new law on road traffic.
Meanwhile, Mr. Toch Chankosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Chairman of the Working Group on Study and Amendments to the Road Traffic Law, gave a brief report on the progress of the study process for drafting the law to the meeting. Prepare the new draft law on road traffic according to the high recommendation of Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Road Safety to respond in a timely manner to dangerous situations. The current increase in traffic has resulted in a large number of deaths and injuries caused by the main factors such as: speeding, disrespecting the right of way at intersections, not driving right. He pointed out that in view of the above necessity, it is necessary to prepare a new draft law on road traffic with a comprehensive content, including adding and defining the types of road traffic offenses clearly and enforcing the law. Better and in line with the announcement of the National Committee for Road Safety, which has set 2020 as the year to tighten the implementation of the law on road traffic.
