Ministry of Interior Holds a Meeting on Construction of Drug Crimes Correctional Centers

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Interior on Friday morning, November 4, 2022, held a meeting on the construction of a drug rehabilitation center for drug offenders under the chairmanship of HE Sak Setha, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and with the participation of His Excellency Deputy Secretary of State. On that occasion, HE Sak Setha welcomed and said that this meeting was held in order to review and study the joint ideas on the project to build a new drug rehabilitation center of the Ministry of Interior.

At the same time, HE Secretary of State added that in order to have a specific and clear basis, HE requested all members of the meeting to study in detail on the projects related to the main work, including: expenditure, design and size of infrastructure centers, as well as Both the location of the official’s workplace and some other important work to respect the principles and recommendations of the leadership.

His Excellency Chhem Savuth, Director General of the General Department of Prisons, made a brief report to inform the meeting that the project to build a drug rehabilitation center is a high initiative of Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The three main objectives are to: 1. Reduce overcrowding in correctional centers and provincial capitals, 2. Inmates participate in labor for health and rehabilitation, and 3. Ensure environmental sustainability. Good ensures the living conditions of detainees with health, hygiene, professionalism and humanitarianism. HE confirmed that this project is planned to build in Phteah Rong commune, Talo Sen Chey district, Pursat province on a total area of ​​502.64 hectares.

His Excellency Sak Setha, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, praised the relevant units and working groups for the drafting of this project. Inputs to make the project draft even better.
